Affordable Housing

The Y Community Development Corporation (YCDC) was founded in 1998 to develop neighborhood revitalization projects and provide affordable housing and supportive services to residents.  This will help create stable and long-term living for York residents.

The Y makes strengthening communities our cause. In part, this is accomplished by offering affordable housing options to low- to middle-income families and through so many other programs that promote a healthy spirit, mind and body. For more than 20 years, the YMCA and the YCDC have been providing safe, clean, and affordable housing for Yorkers.

Home Ownership Opportunities

To promote home-ownership and neighborhood stabilization, YCDC is selling completely rehabilitated and new construction single-family homes in the Salem Square neighborhood of York City.

The homes feature an open floor plan, three and four bedrooms, one and a half baths, modernized kitchens, carpeting, dedicated laundry room, outdoor space and off-street parking. The homes range in size from 2,400 to 3,700 square feet. Mortgages can be as low as $500 per month.

Rental Housing Options

 The YCDC offers a mix of single, two-bedroom and three-bedroom rental units in varying locations. The units are conveniently located in downtown York City, within walking distance to many York City & County employers and Rabbit Transit bus routes.

YCDC Apartments

YCDC Apartments, formerly SMB Properties, Inc., is a 31-unit scattered site residential and commercial redevelopment project that was completed in 2001. The 31 units are a mix of single, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units located above retail store fronts on the 200 and 300 blocks of West Market Street and West King Street in York City. Amenities in the units include historic architecture, hardwood floors, updated HVAC and off street parking. The units have on-call maintenance for daytime, weekend and emergency maintenance needs.

Historic Fairmount Apartments

The Historic Fairmount Apartments were renovated in 2005. This site is located on the 400 Block of North Beaver Street in historic York City and consists of a quaint collection of Victorian Style homes with a mix of 38 single, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom rental units. Historic Fairmount Apartments boasts the following amenities: off-street parking, outdoor space, porches, carpeting, on-site laundry facilities, air conditioning, energy efficient gas heat and hot water, electric ranges, refrigerators, mini-blinds, convenient access to parks and playgrounds, and within walking distance to schools.

Newberry Street Apartments

The Newberry Street apartments are nine market-rate one- and two-bedroom rental units located on North Newberry Street directly across from the YMCA’s Downtown branch location in the heart of York City. The units are renovated and have central air, carpeting, washer/dryer combo, landscaped backyard access, and off-street parking.

George Street Commons

The George Street Commons are 28 townhomes conveniently located at the corner of George Street and College Avenue.  Built in 2013, the townhomes include all utilities, washer and dryer, geothermal heating and air conditioning, carpeting, off-street parking, and a community room for usage by the residents.  The site also includes a corner grocery store.

YMCA Men’s Residence

The YMCA Men’s residence is a 120 single room occupancy building located in downtown York, Pa. We offer 6 emergency shelter rooms and 114 leased rooms. Each floor is equipped with a remodeled kitchenette, restroom, showers, and lockers for extra storage. 24 hour security, elevator service, mailroom, and onsite staff.
