Camp Discovery programs are fun for children of all ages. Activities include field trips, science lessons, swimming, sports, arts & humanities and exercises that help campers learn the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Camp Discovery provides a safe, nurturing and fun camp experience for children of all ages. Our well-trained staff provide a safe environment to enhance the core values of the YMCA: faith, hope, love, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Discovery Time YMCA Preschool at St. John Lutheran Church

Ages 2-5

Discovery Time YMCA Preschool at St. John Lutheran Church is located at 175 East Main Street in New Freedom, PA.  Discovery Time provides a high quality preschool program for the community based on age- appropriate practices and Christian beliefs.

This program includes opportunities for children ages 2 to 5 years old, to interact socially with their peers.  The curriculum for all age groups is aligned with the Pennsylvania Core Standards, providing opportunities for developing language skills, math concepts, social skills, gross and fine motor skills, and science discoveries during whole group, small group and individual activities.

The preschool program helps develop a positive self-concept for each child and empathy towards their peers and community.  As part of a community centered program, Discovery Time partners with St. John Lutheran Church on programs and community service projects.

Nerf tag is an exciting game that attracts all ages and abilities. Players will work together on teams for capture the flag while playing with nerf guns.

Y Kids Club

The YMCA offers quality before and after school programs in six school districts across York County. All programs are licensed by the Department of Human Services and are enrolled in Pennsylvania’s Keystone Stars Quality Assurance Program. Each staff member who works in these programs are licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and certified in pediatric first aid and CPR. Annual training requirements include fire and water safety, child abuse prevention, and an additional 10 hours’ curriculum based training. Lesson plans are posted weekly that include rich opportunities for exploration in interest areas. Homework help is offered and children have the opportunity to engage in free play while in the program.

YMCA Competitive Swim Team

Competitive swimming ages 5 - 18

The York YMCA’s Competitive Swim Team is open to youth of all levels & abilities. It is the perfect program for those who love to swim but have never competed on a team It is ideally for those who enjoy competitive swimming but enjoy a low pressure, relaxed atmosphere. It is especially beneficial for high school swimmers wishing to stay in shape during the off-season. Swimmers compete in local swim meets that give them friendly competition and teach them sportsmanship and teamwork. Practice is held at two locations, the Graham Aquatic Center, located at 543 N. Newberry Street in York, and the York YMCA Southern Branch, located at 100 Constitution Ave in Shrewsbury.
