In this program participants will learn the fundamentals of lacrosse. Participants will learn the sport of lacrosse through fun games and drills. This program is intended for the player with little or no lacrosse experience. This program is offered in the fall and spring seasons.

This exciting game is focused on participants working together to capture the flag on the other teams side of the gym while playing with Nerf guns.  Each participant must bring their own equipment including safety glasses, ammo (bring a lot) and Nerf gun.  Label all equipment.

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water in Stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a students future progress in swimming.

Before and After School Care

The YMCA offers quality before and after school programs in elementary schools across York County. All programs are licensed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) and participate in Pennsylvania’s Keystone Stars Quality Assurance Program (STARS). Our curriculum is built based on the interest of the children and tie in to the PA Early Learning Standards. Full day care is available on days when school is closed.  Learn more

YMCA Competitive Swim Team

Competitive swimming ages 5 - 18

The York YMCA’s Competitive Swim Team is open to youth of all levels & abilities. It is the perfect program for those who love to swim but have never competed on a team It is ideally for those who enjoy competitive swimming but enjoy a low pressure, relaxed atmosphere. It is especially beneficial for high school swimmers wishing to stay in shape during the off-season. Swimmers compete in local swim meets that give them friendly competition and teach them sportsmanship and teamwork. Practice is held at two locations, the Graham Aquatic Center, located at 543 N. Newberry Street in York, and the York YMCA Southern Branch, located at 100 Constitution Ave in Shrewsbury.

YMCA Discovery Time Preschool at St. John Lutheran Church

Ages 2-5

Located at 175 East Main Street in New Freedom, PA, Discovery Time Preschool provides a high quality preschool program to the community based on age-appropriate practices and Christian beliefs. Activities and curriculum that align with the Pennsylvania Core Standards promote social interaction, language development, math and science concepts, and gross and fine motor skills in a setting that promotes self-concept and empathy for each child. Discovery Time preschool partners with St. John Lutheran Church on programs and community service projects.

Yoga Beginner

For the novice yogi, this class introduces the fundamental principles of alignment and breath work in flow postures. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through verbal description and demonstration.

Ages 4-11

For ages 4-11 who wish to learn and expand on the fundamentals of basketball through instruction, practices, and games. Appropriate basket heights for each age group.
